First Nations led the establishment of the Great Bear Rainforest Agreements with the government of British Columbia. The GBCC LP and GBCCC sit under the Great Bear Business Corporation (GBBC) which is a holding company wholly owned by a unique alliance of 7 First Nations on British Columbia's North and Central Coast and Haida Gwaii. The principal goal of this group is to restore land and marine ecosystems through an ecological, social, and economical sustainable resource management approach in the Central and North Coast and Haida Gwaii.

 The GBCCC LP markets and sells carbon credits owned by the Nations. The Nations invest the carbon sales profit into stewardship and ecosystem-based management activities in their traditional territories.
